I started reading more guides and researching more and more. After all, if no one had told me how big turtles grow what else didn't I know? I soon learnt a million and one things about turtles, each time making improvements to my turtles life without spending wads of cash - in fact I started learning how to save money.
I learnt that you don't need to buy specialist turtle food. In fact, too much of this is bad for your turtle and there are much cheaper alternatives. I learnt that you do not need to go to the vet every time your turtle becomes ill, there are cheap over-the-counter treatments and even home remedies you can use instead.
I found out that prevention is better than cure and if you provide exactly the right environment for your turtle it's unlikely to become ill anyway. In fact, when you have the knowledge, turtles are an easy pet to care for and what's more they are very rewarding and cheap to keep.
And now? Terry is happier than ever coming up to his 15th birthday. I don't know if he remembers the dark old days when I first acquired him but if he does he must feel like the luckiest turtle alive. A true rags to riches tale in the turtle world.
